Wildcat Creek Farms, located in Northwest Ohio, is a third generation farm. Our forefathers settled in this area known as the Black Swamp, which covers an area in Northwest Ohio created by glacier activity. This area also had significant influence as part of the canal system. The canal system reservoir in this area was believed to be disrupting the drainage of very flat land and, as a result, the dam was blown and the reservoir was drained. This allowed ditches to work and began to prove productivity of this rich land in our country.
The next generation found that productivity and conservation went hand-in-hand, and were leaders in early soil conservation practices. While good production practices, conservation and soil husbandry were all keys to success in agriculture, our generation is finding that we continue to be an evolutionary industry.
As our generation tried to anticipate the future, we could see the need for both growth and efficiency being key to our long-term viability. We began to consolidate operations through the 1970's and in 1980 formed Wildcat Creek Farms, Inc. We also believe that some vertical integration in the food chain would be important, and that brings us to our present business.
We made the decision to use past experience of crop production and focus on popcorn and related products. This lead us to grow, harvest, condition, clean, grade, package and market popcorn for specific markets and customers. We are committed to the standards of quality, service and customer focus. We realize the high volume, mass market is not a place we can prove our value easily. So, our focus is on specific use customers and our commitment is to develop a partnership with them that will bring them success and allow us to grow with them. |
